The MapleTable was founded May 2004 by Eva-Louise Büchter and Milva-Katharina Klöppel in Hamburg. Our aim was to assemble Canada-Fans from North Germany for a round table to chat about country and people in an informal way.
Did you realise how many Canadian flags you find on German cars, bikes or bags? There is a passion for Canada in Hamburg but there was no platform to talk about the best hiking trails or the funniest pub in Toronto or the cheapest flight to Halifax. In the past years we are proud to have filled this gap with the MapleTable.
The meeting is informal and open. We do not want clubs or fees. The information about meetings, subjects of the evening or other events is distributed via email. From time to time there are lectures about vacations in Canada or other Canada related subjects. They are held voluntarily by people who attend the MapleTable and like to share their experience.
We are between 25 and 35 Canada Lovers every month and the group is very interesting because the age varies from 20 to 75 years. There is no obligation to come regularly and you only need to let us know if you come or not because the restaurant needs to know. Every MapleTable is new and diversified.
Since January 2007 we have a very nice location for our meetings - the traditional restaurant „Deichgraf“ (near Rödingsmarkt), Deichstr. 23. The owner Mrs. Ismer welcomes us in a separate room the “Fleetdiele”. The room is free of charge and in return most of us have dinner from the special menu.
I hope we were able to give you an overview about our MapleTable and its people. We would be pleased to meet you at one of our next meetings. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions.
Looking forward to seeing you at the next MapleTable!
